Princess Anne has accepted an invitation to visit Canada in November.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the announcement Tuesday, noting that he was "delighted" that the Princess Royal will undertake a tour of Canada later this fall.
"It is entirely fitting that a member of the Royal Family should be present as we mark a number of important historical milestones in the lead up to the 150th anniversary of Canada鈥檚 Confederation in 2017," Harper said in a statement.
"We are honoured that Her Royal Highness will be joining us to celebrate moments that have defined our country and instilled a real sense of identity and pride."
In a separate statement, Gov. Gen. David Johnston said princess will be touring the Ottawa region. Details of the tour's full programme will be released at a later date, Johnston said.
The princess is the second child of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip. She was given the title Princess Royal by the Queen in 1987.
She is the colonel-in-chief of seven different Canadian Regiments and last visited Canada in 2013.
Her last official tour of the country was in 1991.
