WASHINGTON -- Hacks of election data systems in at least two states have raised fear among lawmakers and intelligence officials that a foreign government is trying to undermine the integrity - or even manipulate - the outcome of the presidential race.
Federal officials already are investigating cyberattacks at the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which experts say were conducted by hackers tied to the Russian government.
Cyber experts say trolling a private organization's emails is one thing, but breaching state election systems to influence an election would be quite another.
Law enforcement and intelligence officials are investigating and also are looking at whether Russia is conducting a disinformation campaign to diminish U.S. influence.
