Following the latest update to the Google Maps mobile app, users can view estimated travel time via an Uber ride and can even open the taxi app in one click. The integration comes as no surprise, as Google has been among the main investors in the transportation startup since 2013.
Seen only on phones that have the Uber app installed, this new feature allows users to compare the time it would take to travel by taxi with the transport methods already available (driving, walking, cycling, public transportation).
Available on Google Maps for around 20 cities, the new feature also allows users who have Uber on their phone to be taken directly to the taxi app in one click.
The integration of Uber is not the only new feature from the update. Google Maps has also made it possible to save several maps to be able to access them easily, even while offline. Finally, the search function has been enhanced thanks to new filters for opening hours, prices or popularity.
The Google Maps mobile app is available for download at the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android).
