Facebook is under fire for removing a cartoon breast cancer awareness video due to “inappropriate” content.
The video, posted by the Swedish Cancer Society, demonstrated how to perform a self-breast exam with round pink circles mimicking breasts. It also featured three cartoon women performing a breast exam.
In an open letter on their Facebook page, the Swedish Cancer Society said that they understand needing to remove some imagery but that their video could be lifesaving and should not be viewed as “inappropriate.”
The Swedish Cancer Society also included a replacement picture showing two pink “squares breasts” that they said Facebook couldn’t possibly find offensive.
Some questioned how Facebook decides what’s considered “inappropriate” content and encouraged them to review their guidelines before removing any other helpful content.
