REGINA - In a bid to ease Saskatchewan's growing nursing shortage, the province is sending a delegation to the Philippines to attract 300 nurses.
Health Minister Don McMorris says they'll try to woo the nurses with competitive wages and a compensation package. McMorris says he hopes the trip to the Philippines will help tackle what he calls the "huge problem" of the nursing shortage in Saskatchewan.
But the minister acknowledges the province must also address the need for more training spaces for nurses at home.
The Saskatchewan Party has promised to hire 800 more nurses in its first term of office.
Next week's trip comes just days after Saskatchewan's nurses opened contract negotiations with a call for an emergency retention and recruitment partnership.
