WOLFVILLE, N.S. - New Democrats in Nova Scotia say they will develop a 10-year agricultural strategy to help farmers expand their businesses.
The party made the pledge today at a campaign stop in the run-up to the provincial election on June 9.
NDP Leader Darrell Dexter says the plan will focus on developing export markets, doing farm research to determine new opportunities and improving soils and crop yields through transportation assistance.
Dexter says small and medium-sized farms need help because of a lack of direction from the governing Tories.
The party says it will develop the strategy in consultation with people in the industry.
