HALIFAX - Nova Scotia Liberals have finished a weekend of voting to select delegates to attend next month's leadership convention.
The party's so-called "super weekend'' wrapped up Sunday, with each provincial riding eligible to select up to 30 delegates.
The delegates aren't tied to a particular candidate when they attend the leadership convention, scheduled for April 27 and 28 in Dartmouth.
Four people are looking to replace Francis MacKenzie, who quit last June after failing to win a seat in the provincial election.
The candidates are Halifax lawyer Kenzie MacKinnon, Colchester County Mayor Mike Smith and legislature members Stephen McNeil and Diana Whalen.
Paula Lunn, the co-chair of the Leadership convention, said the process has helped raise the profile of the third-place party.
The leadership race has attracted a number of new members, though Lunn said it was too early to know exactly how many people joined.
"It has been a good process for our party,'' Lunn said in an interview from Windsor.
"We've just gone through a rejuvenation, and there's very much a collegial atmosphere.''
There are still several leadership forums before the convention, with the last one in Halifax on April 11.
"I don't believe that there's an evening that any of the candidates have that isn't scheduled for (campaigning) somewhere throughout the province,'' said Lunn.
The Liberals currently hold nine seats in the 52-seat minority legislature. The ruling Conservatives have 23 seats, while the NDP hold 20.
