Actor Billy Baldwin says Donald Trump is a âbuffoon,â but heâs making the race to the White House a close one by tapping into a surging anti-establishment mindset.
âThere is a silver lining to this, there is a Brexit component to this,â said Baldwin on CTVâs Your Morning, referring to Britainâs hotly-contested referendum in June, that saw 52 per cent vote in favour of leaving the European Union.
âPeople arenât just following him because they are lacking in intelligence or theyâre crazy. People are supporting him because the system hasnât worked for a long, long time. Special interests and corporations run the show and theyâre tired of it. And theyâre perfectly willing to vote Brexit and blow up the Republican party and blow up this election in order to dynamite the establishment.â
Plus, many Americans base their vote on who would be fun to drink beer with, said Baldwin, before quipping: âThatâs how we got George Bush.â
The Baldwin brothersâ opposing views on the election have made for fascinating Twitter fodder.
Alec Baldwinâs impersonation of Trump in a series of Saturday Night Live segments has landed him in hot water with the candidate, while receiving widespread praise as hilariously spot-on.
The youngest in the clan, Stephen Baldwin, meanwhile, refers to Trump as âMr. Presidentâ on Twitter.
Baldwin made an appearance on CTVâs Your Morning accompanied by his wife and singer Chynna Phillips to promote their charitable work. The couple will take part in this weekendâs Rally for Kids with Cancer, a scavenger hunt in luxury vehicles pairing celebrity navigators with fundraisers to raise money for Torontoâs Hospital for Sick Children.
