BANGKOK, Thailand - Thailand's parliament is to meet Monday to elect a new prime minister.
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Chai Chidchob, told reporters that King Bhumibol Adulyadej had endorsed a request from the Democrat Party to hold the session.
The election of a new prime minister became necessary because the country's Constitutional Court last week forced Somchai Wongsawat to step down because his People's Power Party was found guilty of poll fraud in last year's general election.
The Democrats claim they have enlisted enough lawmakers from other parties to claim a Parliamentary majority and form the new government.
