The 2018 FIFA World Cup logo was revealed to the world this week from the dizzy heights of the International Space Station.

Astronauts at the ISS to the big reveal before the emblem was projected onto the Bolshoi Theatre in Russia, which will host the tournament.

Designed by Lisbon-based branding agency , the official emblem features the traditional outline of the World Cup trophy, with a color palette of red, gold, black and blue inspired by Russian art.

The nation's innovations in space and a global love of football are also said to be represented within the design, which according to FIFA President Joseph Blatter "unites magic and dreams."

"Hosting the World Cup is the dream of millions of Russians," said Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee Vitaly Mutko. We've tried to encapsulate that dream in the Official Emblem. The World Cup will change our country and will present a new, modern Russia to the whole world."

Further brand visuals for the will follow next year, with the Official Look program and slogan planned for launch in early 2015, and the poster and mascot due to be presented at the end of 2016.
