REGINA - About five families were evacuated from their homes after a train derailed near the village of Spy Hill, Saskatchewan, close to the Manitoba boundary.

No injuries were reported after the east-bound freight train derailed around 7 a.m. Saturday, according to CN spokesman Kelli Svendsen.

Svendsen said the tank cars involved contained propane and after the crash the propane was vented for safety reasons.

Families in a two-kilometre radius were evacuated by police.

A four-kilometre no-fly order was also issued for the area.

Svendsen says there is still a fire on the site related to the venting, so they have not been able to get close enough to confirm how many cars derailed.
