Todd Battis

Todd Battis is the Atlantic Bureau Chief for CTV NATIONAL NEWS, based in Halifax. Originally from New Brunswick, he has lived and worked in most provinces in Canada.

Over the three decades of his career, Battis has reported on everything from Royal visits, to elections, to the Olympics, and he has even had a stint covering the Hollywood film industry.

He has covered Canada's sesquicentennial bash on Parliament Hill, Royal weddings, and the Queen鈥檚 birthday. Battis also covered Brexit and followed the nationwide procession through Cuba reporting on the death of Fidel Castro in 2016.

Battis covered Canada鈥檚 anniversary ceremonies of D-Day in Normandy and Vimy Ridge. As part of his coverage on Vimy Ridge, his report on his great-grandfather鈥檚 role in the battle won the RTDNA鈥檚 2018 Dave Rogers Award.

He has travelled to cover numerous hurricanes, including the record-breaking destructive Hurricane Harvey in Texas as well as from New York City during Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Battis covered the retirement of Pope Benedict XVI and selection of Pope Francis in 2013. He reported on Barrack Obama鈥檚 re-election and the last-minute deal between the NHLPA and NHL owners that ended the league鈥檚 2012-13 lockout. He was also a key part of the 愛污传媒 team covering the London 2012 Olympic Games, and has covered stories across the country including the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals and subsequent riots for CTV NATIONAL NEWS. In 2010, he reported on the death of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili at Vancouver 2010.

Battis led CTV's coverage of the 2006 Robert Pickton murder trial, reported on the 2005 Michael Jackson trial, and the crash of Swiss Air Flight 111 into the Atlantic Ocean at Peggy鈥檚 Cove, NS.

Prior to assuming the role of Atlantic Bureau Chief, Battis was the Vancouver Bureau Chief for CTV NATIONAL NEWS, and before that, the Science Reporter with 愛污传媒.

Battis has been a reporter, producer, co-host, and anchor with both CTV and CBC. He began his career in London, Ont, and holds degrees from Acadia University and the University of Regina. Battis is fluent in English and French.
