The valley of despair just got a little wider for Brexit opponents in the U.K.

Chocolate lovers in the country are raging against a Britain-only change to the Toblerone, which will reduce the number of triangular pieces in each bar as a way to cut down on the weight of the product. Toblerones in the U.K. will soon feature wider "valleys" between each chocolate "peak" as a result of the change.

The 170-gram chocolate bar will soon weigh only 150 grams at British discount retailers. The signature 100-gram Toblerone will not be changed, and other vendors will not be affected, according to a spokesperson for Switzerland-based Mondelez International, which manufactures the chocolate.

Mondelez says the change is aimed at meeting pricing targets for discount retailers in the U.K., and has nothing to do with the Brexit vote.

But that hasn't convinced the British public, who tweeted photos showing "pre-Brexit" and "post-Brexit" versions of the Toblerone on Tuesday.

Despite Mondelez's denial, the Brexit may have indirectly influenced the change. U.K. retailers are feeling the pinch of rising import prices and a weaker pound following the decision to leave the European Union.
