LucasFilm has revealed the name of the next instalment in the "Star Wars" franchise: it will be titled "The Last Jedi."

The film will be a sequel to 2015's "The Force Awakens," the first "Star Wars" film since Disney acquired the film franchise. "The Force Awakens" ended with Rey (Daisy Ridley) confronting Jedi Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who had been living in exile.

Disney revealed the title in a tweet on Monday.

Directed by Rian Johnson, "The Last Jedi" is slated for release on Dec. 15.
