A former U.S. Navy Seal running for Congress in Texas says veteransâ injuries shouldnât be used as âpunchlines for bad jokesâ after comedian Pete Davidson made fun of his injury on Saturday Night Live.
On Saturday night, Davidson showed a photo of Crenshaw wearing the eyepatch heâs worn since losing his right eye to an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan in 2012.
âYou may be surprised to hear heâs a Congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie,â Davidson said during the skit. âIâm sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever,â he added.
After outrage on social media, on Sunday, saying that he tries ânot to offendâ and tries harder ânot to be offended.â
âThat being said, I hope (SNL) recognizes that vets donât deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes,â Crenshaw added.
National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Jack Pandol demanding an apology from the New York-based network that airs SNL.
âGetting dumped by your pop star girlfriend is no excuse for lashing out at a decorated war hero who lost his eye serving our country,â Pandol said, referring to Davidsonâs recent breakup with singer Ariana Grande.
âNBC should immediately apologize to Dan, and to the millions of veterans and military families who tune in every weekend â because theyâre not laughing,â Pandol added.
On NBC's Saturday Night Live, Pete Davidson mocks GOP Congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw for losing his eye in war: âYou may be surprised to hear heâs a Congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie. Iâm sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever.â
