Riskin's specialty is the biomechanics of bats, the subject of his MSc (York University 鈥00) and PhD (Cornell University 鈥06) degrees, and of the more than 20 scientific papers he has authored or co-authored.
He is the former co-host of Discovery Canada鈥檚 DAILY PLANET, and Animal Planet鈥檚 MONSTERS INSIDE ME. He has hosted science specials for Science Channel, National Geographic, and CTV鈥檚 W5.
Riskin has been recognized with a multitude of awards and honours, including the Canadian Society of Zoologists鈥 Public Education Award (2020), The University of Alberta鈥檚 Distinguished Alumni Award (2015), and the Canadian Council for University Biology Chairs鈥 Science Promotion Award (2014). The shows he has hosted have also won a number of awards, including WorldFest-Houston鈥檚 Platinum Award (2019) and a Canadian Screen Award (2017).
Riskin鈥檚 first book, Mother Nature is Trying to Kill You, was a Canadian best-seller. He is fluent in both French and English. He is based in Toronto, where he lives with his wife Shelby and their three children.
