Three new complainants have come forward with allegations about Jian Ghomeshi, police said on the day the former radio host appeared in court to set a trial date.
Ghomeshi appeared at a Toronto court shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday, flanked by his lawyer and seven police officers.
He arrived at the courthouse at College Park, on the southwest corner of Yonge and College Streets, to appear before a judge to set a trial date.
Ghomeshi was previously charged with four counts of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance. Three new charges were filed in court Thursday, related to allegations from the three new complainants.
The 47-year-old former radio host is currently out on bail, the conditions of which have not changed, beyond the addition of the three new complainants names to the list of people he must avoid. Lawyer Marie Henein told reporters in November that he will be pleading not guilty, and said that her client would not be making any further statements to the media.
On Thursday, Henein and Ghomeshi were escorted by police into a courtroom without comment.
Ghomeshi was dismissed from the CBC on Oct. 26, after executives say they saw "graphic evidence" that he had allegedly harmed a woman, according to a company memo.
Nine women have come forward with allegations of assault, and many have spoken anonymously to the media. At least three have filed complaints with police.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
The next court date has been set for Wednesday, Feb. 4. Ghomeshi will not appear in person.
