It is 11,800 square feet over eight floors, has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms, sits on an acre of land and is so large it needs two street addresses. If thatâs not impressive enough, it also has its own fitness room, two swimming pools and movie theatre. If youâre thinking this is just another mega-mansion in Vancouver or Toronto, youâd be mistaken. This considerable property is located in Halifaxâs South End and itâs on the market for a measly $10 million.
The real estate agent , Mariana Cowan, told CTV Atlantic that the $10 million price tag is a bargain when compared to other Canadian housing markets.
âThis is very inexpensive for someone coming out of Toronto or Vancouver,â she said. âFor 11,000 square feet of home, itâs unheard of in Vancouver for this kind of pricing.â
Even despite the relatively low price, the property has certainly piqued the publicâs interest. The listing has already received more than two million views online after being on the market for only a week. Roger Boutilier, CEO of the Nova Scotia Association of Realtors, believes most of the online viewers are just curious about the house because it isnât a typical listing for the area.
âYouâre going to get a lot of looky-loos,â he said. âPeople wanting to see what $10 million gets you in Nova Scotia.â
In Halifax, $10 million goes a long way. The enormous home includes an elevator, sauna and a butlerâs pantry. The property is also well-equipped for guests from out of town with a pool house, two-bedroom guesthouse and a boathouse, which overlooks Halifaxâs North West Arm inlet. Cowan said sheâs never tried to sell such a large house before.
âThis has to be one of my favourite spots here,â she said. âThis is good for the career.â
This isnât the first time the enormous home has made headlines. Four years ago, the previous owner managed to escape two kidnapping in the span of a week. That shouldnât scare off prospective buyers, however; a 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the kidnapping attempts.
Cowan is convinced there is a market for such an expensive property in Halifax. She already has two showings set up with potential buyers.
âI knew we would have something relatively quickly, but basically, one day on the market and a showing booked,â she said. âI think thatâs pretty impressive.â
